We visited scenic Defuniak Springs, Florida to photograph Lillian's headshots by the lake. Here's how the session turned out:
Pensacola Child Headshot Photographer
I firmly believe that everybody deserves a great headshot - even your child! Especially when you are preparing them to break into the professional modeling or acting scene. When it comes to getting started in the 'industry,' the old adage "the sooner, the better" applies nicely. But be forewarned; if you want to be taken seriously by a talent agency, you'll need to have a portfolio of professional headshots. Let's talk about things to consider for your portfolio.
Child Headshots for Acting
If you want to set up your child for success in the under 18 acting and modeling industry, you'll want to begin building a professional portfolio right away. This process involves hiring a competent photographer and building some characters or looks for your child. If your desire is to book your child for acting roles, demonstrate some of the 'characters' the child would be booked for. Classic character types would be the 'student', the 'CEO', etc. Build a wardrobe for these characters and ensure your aspiring child actor/actress is photographed 'looking the part'. Acting headshots are very specific, so it's best to do your research well before you book the headshot session.
The next step is to practice poses. If your child is very young, this may require some coaching. In my experience, I've seen parents come up with names for certain poses for the child to perform. Posing, like photography, is an art form. It takes practice & discipline to perform, so be sure to incentivize your little actor or actress for good performance and know when to give them a break. If you need help, there's talent agencies around that will help you and your child understand how to best prepare for an acting or modeling career.
Lillian's Headshot Session
Lillian and her mom met us at Lake Defuniak for the session. We started at the historic Chautauqua Building and worked our way down towards the edge of the lake. Lillian was already practiced on her posing, and with the help of her mom, we got a variety of excellent poses out of her. During the session, we encountered high winds that made hair management a challenge, but living in Florida, you get good at dealing with unexpected weather.

Be sure to use a trusted photographer for your child's acting headshot session. Acting and Modeling headshot submissions to agencies require a specific image format, and a photographer with knowledge of these expectations and an eye for detail will help you get your child booked for a role. I'd be happy to help you get the headshot images you need. Learn more about my headshot packages below:
